About Us

Fife Opera has been in existence for over 25 years and stages an annual production in the Adam Smith Theatre, Kirkcaldy in early November.

Fom 2000 onwards the company has presented a small scale production in the Off Season. This one act opera, or cut-down full-length opera, has toured Fife, has been staged at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and is often used to showcase the talent of Fife Opera's younger members. In a lighter vein, the company also presents a Christmas concert in the Adam Smith Theatre in Kirkcaldy.

In 2011 Fife Opera, and instead of a Small Scale production, held a very successful Come and Sing Day. The opera performed was Carmen and such was the success of the venture that other Come and Sing days are now planned.

The company rehearses from March to November on a Wednesday evening (and, in the latter part of the year, also on Sundays) and is essentially like any other amateur musical company - the members come from all walks of life, there are more women than men, as the performance dates come around we wonder if it will ever be ready, but afterwards its all been worthwhile and before long we are setting off on next year's venture!
