Welcome to Fife Opera
On the web site you will find out a little bit about us, what we are performing next, what we have performed in the past and how to contact us. We hope you enjoy your visit and stay in touch.
Fife Opera was inaugurated in 1976 and stages an annual production in the Adam Smith Theatre, Kirkcaldy in early November.
The company rehearses from Spring to early November, currently on Wednesday and, as the production gets closer, on Sundays. We also hold fundraising events including an annual concert before Christmas. New members are always welcome whatever their interests and regardless of experience as there is no audition for Chorus members.
Fife Opera is run by a committee and has charitable status. Whilst not a professional company we are proud to aspire to excellence. We enjoy giving opportunities to young people nurturing their talent, so much so that many of them have gone on to have a professional career in music. Most of these have, of course, been singers, some going on to careers in the operatic world, others in the world of the musical. Past members have also developed careers as orchestral players and dancers.
Essentially, however, we are like any other amateur musical company – the members come from all walks of life and are of all ages, and as the performance dates come around we wonder if it will ever be ready. But afterwards it has all been worthwhile and before long we are setting off on next year’s venture!
